Issue 6 updates:
I have 13 pages left on issue 6 and boy am I excited. It is usually about this stage in the process that I get the idea for the cover. All the covers on the comics are wrap around.
I just finished the pencils and inks on the cover and felt that I should post it to all those that have bought the comic books. Total illustration time from start to finish on pencil/inks is about 3 hours.
Anyways enjoy the cover.

A break in the hunt…. Q & A with Trav
June 22nd, 2010 | by trav
Ok you have heard me ramble about a few subjects dealing with my views on webcomics and story creation. Honestly I like to ramble and have found myself to be quite good at it. With that being said, I have realized that there are other things people might be interested. So let’s stop the hunt for a moment and take a moment to have a little campfire chat.
This is the part of the show, that I open up to the audience, to ask questions. You can ask almost anything be it about the Bean, Storylines, Prints, How to, or what ever pops into your head. I’ll answer them all.
If there is silence there is not much I can do about that and I will just believe that everyone is reading the story:).
Anyways the time is now yours.

Found a new review of the comic- so very cool here’s the read. Go take a moment to check it out. I am very impressed on how he did his research.
You can read the review right here

If you guys happen to find any other reviews let me know, I would love to read them – I do not mind if they are positive and negative. They help me grow.
Thanks

First off click the image to see a larger version. This print is 20×40. Now back to Choosing Your Adventure…..
As many of you that follow me know that the last few days art wise have been pretty rough. The waste can has gotten a little fuller and I even decided to just take the night off, in which I had a wonderful chat with two of my neighbors, a veteran who’s been home since January and the other a master wood craftsman. It was a nice male bonding moment, that was only enhanced by the screams of the neighborhood over who won last nights game.
By the time I came back into the house, my desire to draw was diminished and I realized that it was time that I took a little rest. I needed to walk away for a moment and clear my head. Which is now a little more focused.
I remembered that I had made the choice in choosing this grand adventure and that I needed to refocus my efforts and sort of balance things out a bit to make this cave walk a little more exciting.
In storytelling there are always parts that take a little longer to complete, pages redrawn, and even completely reorganized. Those pages actually turn out the best when all is said and done and though there might not be a lot of action, they really are the meat of a good tale. I am going through that right now. Yet there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I can see the excitement of getting through issue 6 and starting issue 7 which I just finished scripting last night. It is so much better than I anticipated.
One of the other things I am learning is to slow it down a tad, just a tad and not force it. Every adventure needs planning, but every adventure needs to be fun as well. We can make this adventure enjoyable, even in the frustrating times, or we can make it just miserable and quit. The choice is ours to decide.
The piece above, happened by chance. I was watching 3 little boys at the time play and go on an incredible adventure. It sent me back to my adventures so long ago and I realized how much I had missed those fantastic journey’s deep into underground lairs, deserted cities and magical places. There was not as much technology then and our adventures were out of books and old tv, yet the summer days of being sent outside really helped inspire the directions my stories would take on in later years.
So don’t be afraid to play a little, and encourage your children to play and imagine. You never know what it will inspire them to do.
So back to my world of the bean. My adventure, my journey. One that I do not mind going on alone, though enjoy the company and honestly the more that come by and play the more fun we all seem to have. So dream and dream big…..

Sorry for the tease. I would love to do the books in color, yet for me to do that, there would have to be a few changes. Changes that I would consider fair between all parties involved, until I find a colorist.
For me to color the books, which I am planning to do after they are finished would take a bit about two to three hours a page. Page one took two hours. I would be force to one comic page update a week- if you are all willing. This means the story is going to drag a little more. The fate of that is in your hands. I do though or would consider color one page a week from the beginning and update one colored page a week. Maybe on wed.
A few things to consider, the books are still be printed in b/w. I cannot afford to print them in color so I will not. Please do not be upset by this. Until another publishing house picks up the bill, I am at the mercy of sales. So the series will be b/w until I bound them together. The books we sell the quicker it will be to make a larger color version of the books.
Color is an after thought for me. It’s all about time. Many people have bought issue 5 and are expecting issue 6. (we are only in the beginning of issue 4 online) I owe it to them to keep the story going.
I am willing though to hear your thoughts. Tell me what you think and if you like it.

Learning the game….
June 15th, 2010 | by travI enjoy a good game of chess. I just lake to play, I could care less honestly on who wins. To me it is an opportunity to take a moment and chat about life. Some people find this a little frustrating because they are too busy thinking out how to win, many do by the way. Yet, others enjoy the conversation and one finds themselves transported all over the spectrum of conversation.
It is also an opportunity to learn. Right now in my career I still very much feel like the student. There is much for me to learn and as I struggle to find the right direction for my work, I rely heavily on opportunities to listen from those that taught me. You are never too old to learn, to grow and to develop. The moment you think you are is the moment you stop progressing in life.
One of the most frustrating comments to me is “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” that’s not really true if the “old dog” still wants to learn. Where does he learn from those that are willing to teach.
We are all at different levels in our ability to play the game. There are those that are willing to give advice, there are those that willing to show you how to do it, there are those that willing to both and then there are those that care only for themselves and their careers. Forgetting that they once needed advice to move on.
I am grateful that I have taken the time to surround my self with those that are willing to help me on my way. I do not badger and many times try to figure it all out on my own before I ask and when I do ask I listen…. which is the hardest thing to do. In return, I try and return the favor.
If it wasn’t for many great artist and creators that I know, I would not be on my path today. So I thank them and let them know how much I appreciate their willingness to talk to me. I hope I have honored that advice. As you work through your journey remember your roots, and remember you can still learn and you need to return the favor that was once given to you.
