It’s not all black and white.

First Off- I apologize for any grammatical errors. I think faster than I write and so at times it causes some misunderstandings. I will try and be a little more careful in the future.

Ok. It’s not all black and white. I love to do color work as well. I have several prints and because I have a whole new readership these days, I felt it was ok to introduce you to a few of my other pieces. My prints are designed to inspire and at times bring you back to when you were 10 and when you could do anything.

Not only do I love comic story telling, I also love to tell stories with one piece of art. You can go anywhere you want with one single piece. You will find I love to draw dragons, robots, pirates and all sorts of interesting things. I tend not to draw superheros because I think there are plenty of artist that already do. So I stick to fantasy.

This piece is called “the Stand Off”. When I was 10 there were many a dragon that needed to be defeated in my neighborhood. My father made my brother and I wooden broad swords. Yes they were broad swords, and in retrospect pretty dangerous, yet so incredibly cool. I kinda miss that wooden sword. I also had a home made batman cape, my little brother was robin, but that is another tale for another time.

This is also one of my first prints. The original size 13×19 and I only do 100 of this size. Almost sold out.

Well more art to come.

What an awesome print! I seriously LOVE your colour work. You have to do a tutorial…I'm super curious about your thought process.

Thanks scott. I have thought about doing tutorials, but I find that really hard at times and would rather just sit down for a couple of hours and talk shop. The main problem I guess is my thought process, a lot of it is based on feel and instinct. Pieces evolve as they go from pencil to inks to color, constantly changing in my head. Yet my gut pushes me forward. The techniques are pretty simple, what makes it complex I guess is to manipulate simple procedures to produce complex results. Does that make sense?

Your color work is really great! I can totally see you coloring Bean when it's all finished just like Jeff Smith did with Bone when he finished it.

that is my main goal. I am really trying to pattern my work ethic after jeff. I plan to finish the entire story in b/w – about 30 or so issues are planned (i'm on number 6 so I have a ways to go) and then bang it out in color. I use the prints to keep me in practice and as a break between issues.

Great plan too. It will allow you to keep posting new stuff for a long time because you could post the pages in color weekly after you've completed the books in B&W. This just gives your audience more time to grow.

you are right it is all about helping your audience grow. I so believe it.

Have your say!
